Online, December 8, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Controversial author, social commentator, and qualified sociologist, Chaley-Ann Scott, has just launched her new non-fiction book on alternative parenting and educational philosophy- Radical Unschooling. To celebrate she is giving away free e-books of both her titles for all those who order one of her paperbacks before 25th December 2010 .
Her second book, 'Label Love; Why The Establishment Wants To Label Our Children and How We Can Fight Back' is a deeply personal account of the author's own experiences with special needs treatment and education when her son was diagnosed with a series of disorders. Chaley provides a meticulously researched and powerfully charged argument against the educational and pharmaceutical industries regarding 'special needs'. In essence she claims that they are pseudo-disabilities that are not over-diagnosed - they simply don't exist! She says the behaviours they describe are normal childhood behaviours and parents are being encouraged to drug and train their children for convenience and profit.
"The school system and the pharmaceutical industry are trying to convince us all that our children our broken and need 'fixing' when they are simply exhibiting normal childlike behaviour. It's mass child-abuse and it needs to stop NOW!" argues Chaley.
Her first book 'The Unchained Child; Free Your Child, Free Yourself', when released earlier this year lifted the lid on controversial issues around education, childcare, special needs, parenting, discipline and child health. In this book she provides an unwavering critique of the choices we make - never preaching but quietly insisting that we need to rethink the way we relate to children for all our sakes.
Parents have heralded both of her books as thought-provoking, profoundly illuminating and sometimes confronting, but her writing style and 'from-the-heart' honesty has made her arguments that much more powerful.
Kate Johnson, parent and child psychologist said, " I read both of her books back-to-back and couldn't put them down. I believe they should come with a warning or a disclaimer because they are guaranteed to make you question everything you thought you knew about parenting and education. If these books were handed out in the maternity ward I am convinced the world would be a better place."
Chaley-Ann lives with her husband, three daughters, Molly (10), Evelyn (2) and Ava (6 months), and a son Jack(9); all of whom are unschooled. An early unhappy experience for her son in public school became the impetus to explore alternative styles of education and parenting, including Steiner, school-at-home, unschooling and eventually radical unschooling. Radical Unschooling is a revolutionary parenting and educational philosophy that gives children back their much-needed freedom and is growing apace.
Chaley argues that her family, and thousands of other radical unschoolers, are living proof that this 'whole-life' philosophy can help to create happy, peaceful homes with deep loving connections.
