Cooties - The Flash Killer - Free Flash Alternative

Cooties, developed by a small company called "Blue Dojo" (www.bluedojo.com), is a free flash alternative that has the potential to upend Adobe Flash. As with most web applications no software is required to be installed since it runs completely in a web browser. One is able to create animations, save them, and export them to their own web pages.

One of the major problems with Flash is that it does not run on the iPad or iPhone because Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, does not allow the Flash player to be installed on these devices. He claims that Flash is too slow and too buggy to be reliable for his mobile devices. Animations created with Cooties, however, utilizes HTML5 and animations run on all web browsers including Safari, which is standard on the Apple devices. This fact allow could mean the beginning of the end for Flash. HTML5 is becoming a standard and as more companies use it then more proprietary formats will become obsolete.

Applications such as Gmail are replacing Microsoft's Outlook slowly and steadily. It is only a matter of time as more traditional desktop applications migrate to the world wide web. Cooties is currently in beta testing and it looks promising. Maybe someday it will replace Flash.
