Calling all Metro area green thumbs! Are you tending a vegetable garden in Washington DC, a flower garden in Falls Church, or a lush green lawn in Bethesda? Then point your browser to http://metro-dc-lawn-garden-blog.com for the latest in online horticultural information and fun.

The Metro DC Lawn and Garden Blog also has a serious side: preventing water pollution and encouraging water conservation. In between the fun tidbits and helpful tips, the writers for the Metro DC Lawn and Garden Blog will include periodic reminders and public service messages on topics such as responsible application of fertilizer and pesticide, proper disposal of grass clippings and other yard waste, and tips to avoid unnecessary waste of water.

"As local governments, we're always looking for ways to make the Washington metro area the best place possible to own a home and raise a family," said Stuart Freudberg, environmental program director for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. "We're launching this blog to provide local local green thumbs with a fun and informal way to learn about the opportunities, services, and requirements that local governments have for them."

"Who says government has to be dull? Visitors will find the tips and techniques for growing just about anything," said Eric Eckl, principal for Water Words That Work, LLC, which will produce the Metro DC Lawn and Garden Blog under contract to the council. "And to make it fun, we'll mix it up with funny videos, cute stories, helpful tips, and more."
