united states, April 12, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Today Wallpaper* Magazine launched it’s annual Wallpaper* Handmade designer exhibition at Salone del Mobile. The strictly invitation only event unveiled the designers and brands that have come together to fashion custom designs for the Wallpaper* Hotel. The pairing of designers with brands is a curated project that begins nearly a year in advance. Wallpaper* editors coupled Swiss-French designer Julie Richoz and CoveringsET to collaborate on a piece for the Wallpaper* Handmade ‘Hotel Room’.
Mis Richioz became known for her innovative work with glass and ceramics in creating designs. The material Jade Bio-Glass is an award-winning material created by the designer Ofer Mizrahi for his company CoveringsETC. Bio-Glass received Red Dot Design Award twice as 100% recycled commercial glass.
The Room Divider bookshelf created by Julie Richoz for one of the most prestigious shows of the Design world becomes a continuation of a sustainable lifestyle in a luxury setting.
Ofer Mizrahi on Sustainable luxury: “ While people generally are open to the concept of sustainability, many of them are often too busy to incorporate it into their daily lifestyles. Designers like Julie Richoz can help to set the trend by rethinking “luxury” as we know it today. The idea of taking reused materials and elevating them to the level of luxury is what we stand by at CoverongsETC.”
Julie Richoz on the project: ‘Looking into the collection of CoveringsETC, my interest became Bio-Glass, which has a very unique character. The material is most often used to cover walls or floor in architecture. I took this opportunity to move away from use as a surface to create a freestanding architectural piece. I took inspiration in Alvar Aalto architecture and outside space dividers found in the Mediterranean, which provides shadow yet visibility.
The design is based on a play of exposing and hiding, in a rhythmic, almost kinetic way and invites one to move around the Bio-Glass wall to discover it.’
