Creative FX delivers the Ferrari Stealth for less than £2,000

A Bromley-based company, Creative FX, is currently doing brisk business on the back of a trend among the well-healed to temporarily change the colour of their high performance motor cars, by applying a vinyl wrap.

The recent launch of the new Lotus Exige Stealth epitomises the latest trend for matt black cars. But if you can't quite meet the £45,000 price tag for the new Lotus (which has been named the Scura for the UK market), specialist car wrapping company, Creative FX, offers a cost-effective and exciting alternative - the Stealth wrap.

This Ferrari F430 Spider owned by supercar club, Ecurie 25, was transformed from rosso red to matt black in just two days. The finish is flawless: there are no visible joins and, even at close quarters, it looks as if the car has been sprayed rather than wrapped.

The wrap was applied by Creative FX's specially trained staff, using a specialist self-adhesive vinyl, which is gently heated and stretched over the car's bodywork (using a laser thermometer to maintain a constant and precise temperature). It's an intricate process and the lines and curves of the Ferrari had to be followed meticulously.

John Eliel, Ecurie 25's Managing Director, said "It's as if we have a brand new car; the matt black finish on a Ferrari is a real head-turner. We've nicknamed it the Ferrari Stealth and it is proving to be a favourite with our customers; in fact two have already expressed an interest in having their own cars wrapped."

However, the vinyl wrap is not the exclusive preserve of Ferrari owners. Creative FX managing director Sean Davis says that the majority of his customers have more modest vehicles, "we are wrapping everything from family saloons and estates, to Smart cars; even scooters and motor bikes." The car wrapping specialists also offer far more than just matt black - an almost endless spectrum of colours is available, and finishes include a rather striking carbon fibre. They can even design wraps to your own specification - the firm boasts an in-house design team, which it says can cater for the wildest of ideas.

Prices are affordable, starting at £250 (+VAT) for a bonnet or roof section, and complete wraps are from £1400 (+VAT) depending on the car size and finish required. Even a Ferrari F430 is just £1,950.

Guaranteed for up to five years, the wrap has the added benefit of protecting the car's paintwork. It can be removed with ease at anytime without damage to the bodywork or, crucially, the value of the car. The only proviso is that the paintwork is in good condition before the wrap is applied.

The Ferrari F430 Spider will be on display on the Ecurie25 stand at the MPH show from 5th to 8th November at Earls Court and you can see a video of the wrap being applied at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3LPfHk3gKo
