CRONIES By Adimchinma Ibe (Tammy Series, #3). A Unique Blend Of Suspense And Culture From One Of Nigeria's Newest Authors.

Mr. Edward Okeke was murdered, shot five times in the chest and in the head in what looks like a gangster mafia like execution. A security slip left the only person who can positively identify his killer dead...

If you are a fan of police procedurals, you will definitely enjoy discovering a new author, and a new setting for those books. Cronies marks Adimchinma Ibe's third attempt after Treachery In The Yard, his debut as an author of a series set in Nigeria, his homeland, and followed by Patron of Terror.

Cronies is a novel that shows corruption, politics, and murder are the same worldwide. The hero is Tammy Peterside, a flawed character who is well aware of his own shortcomings (an inability to be the kind of person his girlfriend deserves, the habit of parking in front of the stairs at the police administrative building just to annoy his superiors), but who nonetheless is one of the few honorable people in the city. Despite his flaws, Tammy has caught the police chief's eye, and so he is assigned to investigate the shooting of Edward Okeke, an accountant with the Oil Producing States Development Service.

Tammy's world -- Port Harcourt -- is peppered with bribery, scandal and, generally speaking, people doing the wrong things for bad reasons. Tammy himself frequently skirts the line, and at times he must cross that line if only because no one else is playing fair. In fact, it seems the harder he tries, the more people get killed; yet to stop investigating would be even worse.

This is a hard book with little respect for life among its characters and almost no respect for law, but it's engaging, particularly as we Tammy negotiate homicide investigations in a culture where pretty much anyone can be bought -- including the police.

Author Adimchinma Ibe has created an international suspense thriller with his Tammy Peterside Series, a Nigeria-based crime series following the journey of Detective Tamunoemi Peterside.

Cronies tells about the experiences of Tammy, a homicide detective attached to Port Harcourt State Police headquarters, as the detective struggles against Police corruption, in the political and social atmosphere of the modern day Nigeria.
