Cyber Bullying Gay Students Are Being Singled Out But Where Are The School Officials? Where Are The Parents Of The Bullies?

Suicide by Bullying - It seems now that kids identified as being Gay are being picked on for more than any other segment or group. This is the reason parents should have the diversity conversation went their teenagers.

New Orleans, Louisiana - The 2010-11 School year is off to a horrible start as the nation mourns the latest teen (Tyler Clementi) to commit suicide as a result of cyber bullying. The epidemic of cyber bullying has claimed 5 victims so far this year, and the school year is just getting started. Many observers are wondering why gay kids are the primary focus of bullies, while others are wondering why the schools are not doing more to protect these kids.

School officials have said that they are at a disadvantage because most of the bullying is taking place during after school hours on websites such as Facebook and twitter. Wall posts, Tweets, and now live video streaming has taken cyber bullying to a level many school officials and parents have never experienced.

Tyronne Jacques author of 'How To Fight Google And Win' (www.removeslander.com) says cyber bullying is still an issue for parents, not just the school officials.

"It seems now that kids identified as being Gay are being picked on for more than any other segment or group. This is the reason parents should have the diversity conversation went their teenagers, and stress the importance of respecting fellow students. There is a strong possibility that if your child is not being bullied, then they may be in the group that is initiating the bullying. Parents should become more proactive with the recent cases such as Tyler Clementi and use it as a teaching opportunity."

Tyronne Jacques went on to say that many parents will not get involved unless their child is being bullied. He warns that it may be someone else's child today, but it could very well be your child tomorrow.

CNN has also taken on this issue of Cyber Bullying and will dedicate and entire week to addressing the problem and highlighting possible solutions. Anderson Copper will lead the national discussion on how to protect kids that are considered different or have identified themselves as gay.

Prior to this year cyber bullying was primarily an issue for the high schools but with the case at Rutgers University, bullying has now reached Secondary Education. Tyronne Jacques went on to say that having internet alerts for the teens is a great way to stay on top of cyber bully attacks in the form of blog post and forum entries. Cyber bullies have now resulted to creating web sites or blogs for the sole purpose of attacking your child. By implementing internet alerts you will be notified the exact moment your child's name is published on a website."
