Dalai Lama Signed Portrait Auction
Online, June 26, 2012 (Newswire.com) - A signed portrait of His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama which he signed on his recent visit to the UK, is due to be auctioned by The Buddhist Community Centre UK (BCCUK) later this year.
The Oil on Canvas portrait measuring 100 cm x 100 cm shows a laughing Dalai Lama which Lisa Andrews, the artist, says both encapsulates the spirit of the Dalai Lama, and portrays his characteristic sense of humour.
It is the only signed portrait painting of the Dalai Lama in existence which has been authenticated by the BCCUK, who arranged for His Holiness to sign the painting on his recent visit to The EBB stadium in Aldershot during his UK tour.
The funds raised from the auction will all go towards the BCCUK who are in the process of establishing a Community Centre UK for all Buddhists which will be open to members of the public with an interest in Buddhism.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. He was born on 6th July 1935, in a small village called Takster in north-eastern Tibet, to a farming family. At the age of two the child, who was named Lhamo Dhondup at that time, was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso. He began his monastic education when he was six and was called upon to assume full political power at the age of 15.
