Dan "Hotdog" Moschella Vies To Become America's Ultimate Athlete
4th Generation Union Carpenter To Compete Again in American Ninja Warrior TV Challenge
Online, April 8, 2014 (Newswire.com) - When union carpenter Dan "Hotdog" Moschella, 29, reports to work every day, he's prepared to do whatever's necessary to get the job done, but he also knows that every ounce of exertion brings him one step closer to being recognized as America's best athlete.
Moschella, a finalist in last year's popular TV reality show, American Ninja Warrior, will compete in this year's regional competition, slated for St. Louis, April 12 - 13. Finalists from the regional competition will compete in Las Vegas for the title of "American Ninja Warrior" and a $500,000 prize.
Moschella's first appearance on the show was during last year's regional event in Baltimore. Competitors faced a grueling obstacle course that tested strength, flexibility and endurance. In the Baltimore competition, 150 athletes fought for a spot in the finals but only nine, including Moschella, made it to the Las Vegas finale.
"What could be more American than a union carpenter?" he told a show host in an interview immediately after completing his run in Baltimore.
Moschella, a fourth generation carpenter, has been an apprentice with Edison, N.J., Local Union 254 (www.northeastcarpenters.org) for four years and expects to graduate as a journeyman in 2015.
"Dan's success is a testament to the enthusiasm and hard work he demonstrates both on the job and in this rigorous athletic challenge," says Bill Sproule, New Jersey Regional Manager, Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters. "He has a winning attitude and that is trait we support."
Union Local 252 and 254 are doing everything they can to support Moschella. They have offered to assist with his travel expenses so that he can attend the regional competition.
He credits his competitive scholastic background, personal training and carpentry duties that require on-the-job fitness for his previous success.
Moschella was a varsity cross-country and track athlete both in high school and college.
"I'm really good about controlling my nerves since I competed at such a high level in college," Moschella says. "I thrive in high pressure situations and try not to over think it."
NBC will televise American Ninja Warrior for its sixth season, on Monday nights throughout the summer beginning May 26 (8 to 10 p.m. EST/PT). The finale airs on Sept. 15, (8 p.m. EST/PT).
