"The biggest challenge, even if you want to maintain present production, is to keep looking down the road, looking at reserves," says Parisi in the interview. "It's a challenge because we have plenty of reserves of coal, but it gets harder every year to get permission to mine that coal."

The coal industry has played an important role in the economic development of Pennsylvania ever since the first train rolled into Keystone in 1871 for its first load.
