Dating Unplugged: What's Old is New Again for Singles Frustrated with Online Dating
Online, May 24, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Is online dating losing some of its luster?
Last week, TODAY's Kathie Lee and Hoda featured a relationship segment about going offline and dating unplugged. Hoda called the idea of not going online to find a date "refreshing," particularly because of all the lying that takes place online.
"Lying is definitely one of the complaints we hear about a lot, but lack of chemistry once people meet in person is the real biggie. Witty texts, flirty e-mails, even sparkling telephone conversation still doesn't necessarily add up to a connection when the pair meets in person," says Liz Williams, co-founder of GreenlightCard.com, a site in which members use personalized sets of Greenlight Cards-modern incarnations of the Victorian calling card-to introduce themselves to people in person, rather than online.
Of course "dating unplugged" is nothing new. And there are plenty of people who have never gone online in search of a date. But for people who have gotten used to the idea of looking online to find dates, looking for love in the real world can be intimidating, even if they're disheartened by their online dating experiences.
"Dating can be really hard, especially when you're at a point in your life when it's really important to you to find someone. The idea behind Greenlight Card is to empower people to get away from their computers, look around, and then not miss the opportunity to connect with someone when the chemistry is there. It's exactly what the Today Show segment was about," says Patricia Lipkin, co founder of GreenlightCard.com.
To give members an added boost of support, Greenlight Card introduced a new character to its site today-Nosy Parker, intermeddler. Nosy promises to provide answers, even when not asked, about dating and courtship. (Go to http://www.greenlightmoments.com to meet Nosy.)
Greenlight Card also blogs every week at http://greenlightcard.wordpress.com.

About Greenlight Card, LLC
Greenlight Cards are a new and stylish way to make a connection that could lead to romance. You get the cards at GreenlightCard.com, a website that encourages people to take advantage of actual, physical, you-know-it-when-you-feel-it, chemistry.
So many people are spending hours online looking for potential matches, and then more hours emailing, calling and texting. When they meet in person and the match falls flat, they're demoralized and they've wasted so much time. GreenlightCard.com is completely different than any other dating website out there. We're encouraging people to start on the other side...to make a connection with someone they're already attracted to.
We know that's not always easy, and that's where the Greenlight Cards come in. Greenlight Cards give single people a cool, civilized way to show their interest. The woman who's been eyeing a certain waiter for weeks can include one of her Greenlight Cards with her tip. The man who's just had a nice conversation with a bookstore owner can hand her a Greenlight Card when he buys a book and then walk away.
The next step is up to the person who has received a card. She goes online, types the number on the card into GreenlightCard.com and finds out how to contact the card giver. If she's interested, she gets in touch and the romance begins.
