David Guetta Endorses Dubset's Groundbreaking MixSCAN Technology That Pays Underlying Rightsholders and Provides Exclusive Content via Thefuture.fm
Top DJ and Producer Leading EDM Industry in the Identification, Registry and Royalty Payments for Music Used in Streamed DJ Mixes
New York, NY, October 30, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Starting today, David Guetta, one of the world’s biggest electronic music stars, is providing exclusive mixes, radio shows and other content to his fans via Thefuture.fm music streaming platform. Thefuture.fm platform utilizes Dubset’s proprietary MixSCAN® rights management technologies, which register the mix and identify its underlying content and rightsholders. As fans listen to the mixes, consumption is audited, rights are assessed, royalty reports are created, and the proper rightsholders are compensated – filling a long-needed void for artists whose work has been utilized in DJ mixes without recognition.
“Thefuture.fm is a huge step forward in delivering DJ mixes online. Producers, artists, DJs at whatever level get paid for being part of the evolution,” said Guetta. “Many of the hottest new records that come out are created by emerging talent; we mix them, play them, share them - and the nature of our game is that we build fresh artists by playing and supporting their work. Until now, it’s just been promotion and championed by the big guns, but like I have supported emerging producers for many years, I want every music maker to have the chance to not only make their music heard, but to get paid – getting the artist paid is priceless and supports new talent. This technology creates a way for these bigger artists to not only promote the lesser-known artists but to ensure that they’re being properly compensated. This is enormously beneficial to artists at every level, and I’m looking forward to working with Thefuture.fm on developing new ideas.”

Dubset has just released MixSCAN® commercially and in an effort to ensure underlying rightsholders of mix music are properly compensated, is now signing royalty and distribution agreements with labels, publishers, music services, and performance rights organizations. Dubset now retains a portion of all mix music revenues on behalf of underlying artists and rightsholders. As these new agreements are established, monies are released and a formal royalty program is put in place.
“It’s important to begin the process of capturing royalty eligible revenues (for rightsholders) that have been slipping through the vast hole in the royalty system created by mix content,” Bob Barbiere, CEO of Dubset, said. “Having one of the most successful DJs in the history of music support the technology while showing equal concern for the criticality of capturing underlying rightsholder royalties is the most ringing endorsement of our company and technologies we could have ever expected.”
Prior to the official reveal of MixSCAN®, Dubset had led the EDM industry through a comprehensive two-year trial encompassing the scanning and streaming of millions of mixes, driving deep layers of insight into artists, technologies, performance rights organizations, and consumers. The trial enabled Dubset to utilize music industry leaders’ input and feedback to enhance the registration, audio fingerprinting, textual fingerprinting, distribution, auditing, and reporting elements of the technologies and platforms. MixSCAN® now successfully powers Thefuture.fm web and mobile mix music services along with player apps that allow DJs to share content (and earn revenues) via Facebook and Twitter.
