DE-CIX Istanbul Internet Exchange Expands to TurkNet Data Center
Turknet connects its network to DE-CIX Istanbul to improve the quality of its Internet traffic.
New York, NY, June 21, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Having celebrated its 20th anniversary in the telecommunications industry, TurkNet, the leading, new-generation telecom operator in Turkey, carries on with its ever-increasing investments. With aims to provide the highest quality infrastructure to its customers, TurkNet has signed a cooperative agreement with DE-CIX Istanbul, the world’s leading Internet exchange operator.
DE-CIX Istanbul is a carrier- and data-center-neutral Internet exchange distributed across data centers throughout the Istanbul metro. DE-CIX Istanbul’s Internet exchange provides IP interconnection (“peering”) for the entire Internet ecosystem, which includes hosting companies, content delivery networks and operators of broadband Internet access. DE-CIX Istanbul delivers carrier and data-center-neutral Internet exchange services for Internet service providers (ISPs) from Turkey, the Balcans, the Caucasus region, Persia and the Middle East.
"Since DE-CIX Istanbul's start of operations in 2015, we have established a significant footprint in the Istanbul metro region. Every new enabled site, including TurkNet's data center, increases the access points for other networks to join the exchange. With every new network, the networks' IP quality is enhanced, as is the end-user Internet experience."
Bülent Şen, DE-CIX regional director of Turkey
Under the agreement, DE-CIX Istanbul will extend its setup to the TurkNet data center in Gayrettepe. As such, DE-CIX continues to add data center sites to expand the coverage of the exchange and will increase its utility to the Internet peering industry in Turkey and the region. With the additional TurkNet site, DE-CIX Istanbul will be available at five enabled sites in Istanbul and at more than 20 access points in Ankara, Bursa and Izmir, offering a platform which interconnects hosting companies, content delivery networks and all kinds of Internet service providers.
Additionally, TurkNet joins DE-CIX Istanbul. By connecting its Internet traffic to the DE-CIX peering and interconnection fabric in Istanbul, TurkNet will be able to strengthen its ability to offer uninterrupted Internet service to its customers.
“As a member of the Turkish Network Alliance Platform, we established our strategy based on redundancy and ever-increasing quality. After launching direct exchanges with Facebook and Google in previous months, the agreement with DE-CIX represents another crucial step toward achieving our strategy. By carrying our Internet traffic to DE-CIX’s Internet exchange point in Istanbul, we will continue to increase our traffic quality. We plan to strengthen our network with similar collaborations in the near future,” says Cem Çelebiler, General Manager of TurkNet.
“Since DE-CIX Istanbul’s start of operations in 2015, we have established a significant footprint in the Istanbul metro region. Every new enabled site, including TurkNet’s data center, increases the access points for other networks to join the exchange. With every new network, the networks’ IP quality is enhanced, as is the end-user Internet experience,” explains Bülent Şen, DE-CIX regional director of Turkey.
“The agreement with TurkNet adds an essential site with a significant amount of carriers and ISPs to our metro footprint, and we are delighted to have them on board,” Şen notes.
