De Pere's Venture Theatre to Hold Stand Up Comedy Seminar
Venture Theatre to Hold Stand Up Comedy Seminar lead by Nick Mortensen, 2 time winner of Wisconsin's Funniest Comedian Contest. The seminar aims to identify fresh local comedy talent.
Online, May 14, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Venture Theatre plans to hold a first-of-its-kind Stand Up Comedy seminar on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm. The event aims to identify local comedy talent to showcase at Venture Theatre's Itty Bitty Comedy Show- the acclaimed weekly stand up comedy show.
"We've found that many Itty Bitty Comedy Show audience members express aspirations to eventually perform stand up comedy themselves," explains Venture Theatre owner Michael Yoder. "This goal of the seminar is to make it easier on aspiring comedians to begin their journey in comedy."
The seminar will be lead by 2-time winner of the "Wisconsin's Funniest Comedian" contest Nick Mortensen, who taught 3 sessions of a class entitled "Stand Up Comedy for the Stage & For Business" from 2009-2011 for the UW-Union in Madison before a devastating fire lead to a return home to Green Bay in late 2011.
"Every aspiring comedian has to conquer overwhelming self-doubt just to take the stage for the first time. It took me ten years to accomplish that." reflected Mortensen
"If there was a seminar like this - with people who understand the internal struggle and can offer some insight about how to begin doing stand up, I'd have been the first person to sign up."
"It was my own case of undiagnosed ADHD nearly prevented me from trying to do stand up comedy. I just couldn't put a plan together." says Mortensen (Mortensen's Stand Up Comedy class at UW evolved into a class entitled Mastering Your ADHD) "Aspiring comedians need a seminar like this. You can't teach a non-funny person how to be funny, but we've all got that friend who is so funny that we believe they should be a professional comedian. The seminar is a great first step. It is much less risky than attending an open mic."
Those interested in attending the seminar aimed at identifying and refining new comedians in the greater Green Bay area at Venture Theatre on June 7th can register ittybittycomedy.com. Cost is $10, which includes refreshments & two tickets to the itty bitty Comedy Show.
