Dean Xeros Recognized for Outstanding Service With Austin Street Center

Dean Xeros

Dean Xeros, president of Principle Transport Group (PLG), was recently honored for his longstanding voluntary work with Austin Street Center, a Dallas-based homeless shelter, at the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association’s regional banquet. The event occurred on Jan. 27.

Austin Street Center, which provides safe shelter and meets the basic needs of the most vulnerable homeless of Dallas, also received special recognition for the programs and services it provides. Their programs include work readiness, substance abuse support, permanent housing preparation, spiritual support and specialized outreach to veterans and women.

Dean is one of the most integrous people that I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Not only is he an outstanding president and leader who truly supports and cares for his team, but he's always eager to lend a helping hand. I have the utmost respect for him and I think he's an incredible human being.

Xeros’ involvement at Austin Street Center includes his taking over leadership of his church’s outreach ministry back in 1999, where he expanded the serving of meals from once or twice a year to once a month. This program has served almost 100,000 people during that time. Since 2006, the ministry has also worked with Austin Street and with Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church’s annual Greek Food Festival, employing as many as 160 workers that help them earn over $10,000 for their efforts during each festival.

In 2004, Xeros helped create the annual Night with Norm fundraising event, featuring nationally known author and sports talk show host Norm Hitzges. Xeros has chaired the event since its inception and has helped to raise well over $850,000 for Austin Street during that time. Last year’s event raised a record $102,000.

“We are so very thankful for Dean’s legacy of support. Dean gives not only of his time and talent but is the catalyst for others to follow his lead,” said Daniel Roby, executive director at Austin Street. “From serving meals to chairing fundraising committees and from encouraging our clients to inspiring our staff, Dean is a man who truly cares for our clients and is an invaluable member of the Austin Street team.”

“Dean is one of the most integrous people that I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing,” said PLG owner Sheila Jackson. “Not only is he an outstanding president and leader who truly supports and cares for his team, but he’s always eager to lend a helping hand. I have the utmost respect for him and I think he’s an incredible human being.”
