Online, September 20, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The beginning of September was a special time for Usha Martin Academy, Patna - one of the fastest growing IT and Management institutes of the Bihar-Jharkhand region. Mr. Sangram Singh, the Head of HR, Airtel - Bihar and Jharkhand, was able to take some time out of his busy schedule to educate the students on the parameters by which industry today measures its employees as well as aspirants.
Instead of embarking on a long lecture, Mr. Sangram Singh started out by asking the students how they defined success. He then put all the points offered by the students of the UMA to put together a viable definition of success.
"One has to understand the basic difference between a career and a job," pointed out Mr. Singh. "Do not go for a job simply because it is well-paying or has a fancy designation attached to it. Try to pick up something which you think will give you happiness, even if it might not be as highly paid. If you enjoy your job, you will sooner or later rise and help your company rise as well. If you are unhappy with your job, with time you will become indifferent to it."
In his hour-long interaction with the UMA students, Mr. Sangram Singh also spent some time discussing the job market in the current situation and whether there really is as much cause for concern as there is made out to be. "After the global meltdown of 2008, quite a few sectors have emerged as recession-neutral, like banking, insurance, consulting, retail and FMCG. Infact, during the bad phase, the Higher Education space actually took off, as many decided to study."
He pointed out that, considering the current spending trend, the middle-class's disposable income has actually shot up. He pointed out that with spending in the rural space outdoing urban spending this year, it is a great opportunity for students from UMA to stick to Bihar and Jharkhand.
"Bihar, especially, is being looked upon as a state that will drive the next phase of growth in India. Therefore students from UMA should look at capitalising on this advantage."
The power-packed session by Mr. Sangram Singh, HR Head, Airtel - Jharkhand and Bihar was well appreciated by the students of UMA. They walked out with a keener understanding of where the opportunities lay for them in the markets, and how HR Heads and corporate houses chalk out their recruitment policies.
