Delmont Medical Care would like to wish the entire Nassau County community a happy and healthy Labor Day and a great start to the new school year.

Labor Day was first celebrated in the late 1880s as a way of honoring the members of the labor force. Nowadays it has become a long weekend off from school and work, filled with family get-togethers and last trips to the beach. Just as Memorial Day is seen as the unofficial start of summer, many Americans see Labor Day as the unofficial end of summer.

Many Americans take road trips over the long weekend to visit family and friends across the country. Delmont Medical Care has some excellent health tips for these road warriors. Instead of stocking up on fattening snacks, cut up some fruits and vegetables to bring in the car. Pack healthy lunches ahead of time instead of stopping at greasy fast-food joints.

The beginning of Fall is also the best time to check with a doctor or local public health department to find out when the annual flu shot is available. In addition, it's the best time to start finding great places to exercise indoors. Walking around the mall for example is a great way to stay in shape.

"Labor Day is a great American holiday and the best time to start getting ready for the winter and the challenges it brings. Our seniors need to be appropriately prepared and we at Beach Terrace want to help make sure they are," explained Dr. Jacqueline Delmont, CEO and Founder of Delmont Medical Care.
