Appointment of GPS and Wireless Industry Veteran Marks Launch of Strategic Initiative to Grow Company in New Market Segments

DeLorme, the innovative leader in navigation technology, announced today the appointment of Patrick Shay to the newly created position of Vice President and General Manager, Connected Solutions.

In his new role, Shay will spearhead DeLorme's global strategy for the development of new consumer, enterprise, and government markets for the company's award-winning inReachâ„¢ family of two-way personal satellite communication products.

"We see tremendous potential for DeLorme's two-way messaging and SOS alert devices in emerging markets such as marine, aviation, land, government, security and other industries worldwide," said Shay. "I worked very closely with the DeLorme team on their recent launch of the inReach product and I look forward to continuing to build and sustain a strong position for the DeLorme brand in these new markets, building on the company's unmatched position as the leader in GPS and mapping technologies."

Shay brings 25 years of experience in creating and developing new markets in the GPS and wireless marketplace. As vice president and general manager for data services at Iridium Communications Inc., Shay provided the strategic leadership necessary to grow the company's business in this market segment. Under his direction, the satellite data business became the fastest growing market segment at Iridium, experiencing 60 percent year-over-year growth and serving customers in industries such as transportation, people tracking, maritime, aviation, oil/gas and government.

Prior to Iridium, Shay held vice president positions at Hughes Telematics, Sirius Satellite Radio, and Rand McNally, where he created and launched innovative new services in the wireless and GPS marketplace. His career began at Motorola, where he led the global sales team for the company's GPS and telematics business. Shay is also the chair of the ProTECTS Alliance, a global industry group focused on the promotion of two-way emergency messaging and tracking solutions, with more than 65 members worldwide.

"Patrick Shay has a proven track record of success in the satellite communications, wireless, and GPS sectors," said CEO Mike Heffron. "He will be instrumental in growing our inReach and Connected Solutions business and continuing to build on the success of the inReach and future products."
