Desert Oasis Recovery Uses Experiential Counseling In Treating Addictions
RIO RANCHO, New Mexico - Desert Oasis Recovery announced the launch of its innovative Experiential Counseling Program which provides clients with pioneering treatment in order to offer a comprehensive approach to the treatment of addictions.
Online, July 24, 2010 (Newswire.com) - The Experiential Counseling Program (ECP) involves team-building initiatives, a challenge course, recreational activities, group processing, and the opportunity to enjoy being in the outdoors. The program director is Lauren Joseph, an Adventure Based Counselor experienced in working with alcoholics and addicts in an experiential and wilderness context. According to Joseph, "this program gives individuals tools and resources that they can use for their recovery long after they leave Desert Oasis in addition to the traditional treatment modalities. The aim of the program is to enhance the likelihood that a person will remain clean and sober throughout their life."
Clients are encouraged to explore their patterns of addiction during experiential counseling so that they may develop positive and healthy coping skills. Much of the focus is on self-awareness and the development and application of advantageous behaviors in recovery. Processing is an integral component of the ECP and is done both in the group-setting and on the individual level.
Experiential counseling is offered regularly to clients in addition to group and individual therapy, 12-Step meetings, a fully equipped fitness center, meditation, step study groups, relapse prevention, education, and family counseling.
