Development Of A New Device For Improved Water Treatment In Rural Areas

Klares Wasser PLC & Ningbo Jingyuan Technology Company have agreed to develop a new product, SinoMem, that combines ShuiSono, KWP's patented sonar water treatment technology and Ningbo Jingyuan's ultrafiltration & nanofiltration membrane products.

Klares Wasser PLC of the UK and Ningbo Jingyuan Technology Company Limited of China have entered into agreements to produce and market a novel application of technologies owned by both companies from Ningbi Jingyuan's facilities in Ningbo China. The new product called SinoMem, comes about by the linking together of the flagship products from both companies into a new category of product.

Klares Wasser's ShuiSono units propagate resonance frequencies that reduce calcium scale and associated hardness, salinity, iron, algae and odour in water. By removing and preventing scale build up in pipes these units reduce pumping energy and by operating in advance of the membranes they reduce fouling and extend membrane life. They are robust and relatively maintenance free.

Ningbo Jingyuan's ultrafiltration and nanofiltration membranes are made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) PS (polysulphone) alloys. The alloys combine hydrophilic molecules and PVC/PS molecules that prevent membrane fouling by oil, grease and other hydrophobic substances. Rapid conversion between full-flow and cross-flow filtration is available. Ultrafiltration filters of pore size around 0.01 microns remove bacteria, protozoa and some viruses from water. Nanofiltration filters (0.001 microns) remove these microbes, as well as most natural organic matter and some natural minerals, especially divalent ions that cause hard water. Nanofiltration does not remove dissolved compounds.

Both ultra and nano filtration membrane products can treat flow rates in four ranges: 0.25-0.65 tonnes/hr; 0.75 -2.00 t/h: 1.5-3.0 t/h; and 3.5-5.5 t/h. The ultra PVC product can be used for the treatment of artesian well water, micro-polluted water and seawater with the nano PVC product extending this to the treatment of moderately polluted water. The ultra PS product can deal with heavily polluted water with the nano PS product extending this to water reuse and recovery and neutralising the acidity of moderately polluted water.

SonoMem not only supports the individual benefits of each technology, it also increases the life of the membranes, thereby reducing maintenance costs.

The main potential applications for SonoMem are rural villages seeking to upgrade the quality of their drinking water, crop farms wanting to improve irrigation water (important for producing organic foods) and animal farms (pigs, sheep and chickens) that must meet minimum standards for discharge water. In these applications, SonoMem can provide a higher quality of output at a price that is comparable with the single-technology products of competitors.

KWP also gained the exclusive right to sell Ningbo Jingyuan's product range outside China. It will sell the products in high-income OECD countries where similar quality to but lower price than local products will provide the competitive advantage. The Company is able to do this by taking advantage of Ningbo Jingyuan's advanced technologies and tight quality control, China's low manufacturing costs and the producer's location near to one of China's largest seaports. The products are also suitable for some lower-income countries where price and close relations with local distributors can provide the Company with a competitive edge.
