Digital Cameras Recommend Quality Feature Than Smartphones

Online, August 5, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Many consumers bow to the lure of smartphones in place of digital cameras. They are more convenient, usually more portable, and the majority of people always carry their mobile phones with them. However, aside from the convenience of only having to carry one product rather than two there are many better reasons to consider the purchase of two devices. The smartphone camera may have a valid place but it is not for taking decent quality pictures.
Smartphone pictures will typically turn out quite grainy. With the obvious exception of dedicated camera smartphones like the Nokia Lumia 1020, which is built around a staggeringly impressive 41mp camera, there are few handsets that can compete with even some of the cheapest cameras. Even smartphones with 14mp cameras can produce stills that are lacking in their final quality.
The smartphone is designed for use as a smartphone. It does not usually offer the same image stabilisation features as a camera and this means that picture quality can appear blurred as well as grainy. Cameras have been designed specifically for holding and using as a camera and this means that they will usually provide much better looking results.
In terms of features, the digital compact camera is typically considered the least stocked of all digital cameras. However, while it may not have the same extensive feature set as a digital SLR camera it still usually has a greater selection of better quality features and settings than smartphones. Smartphones may make it easier to share pictures on social networks but this comes at the expense of settings like red-eye reduction, image stabilisation, and more.
The digital camera will usually offer better zoom capabilities as well. Both will ordinarily rely on digital zoom rather than optical zoom but where a smartphone digital zoom may appear choppy and blocky it is normal for even cheap cameras to provide clear and accurate images when under zoom.
When it comes to cost, it could be argued that consumers would be better off buying a smartphone that does it all but, in reality, those consumers that want good quality pictures will have to spend a large sum of money to buy one of the latest smartphones with the highest specifications on the market. The likes of the Nokia Lumia 1020 will cost the consumer several hundred pounds and if they are only paying this because they want good quality pictures then buying a budget smartphone and spending the difference on an entry level digital SLR camera will yield considerably better results.
Smartphones do offer convenience. Using a dedicated digital camera will normally mean carrying both a phone and camera and this can be awkward but modern compact cameras are easily slim and compact enough to fit in a pocket, let alone a handbag or other bag. Most people have enough room for a sleek compact camera and a modern smartphone with compact size. The smartphone is great for taking impromptu shots when they are not expected but cheap digital cameras will provide better results.
