Digital Marketing in the Not for Profit Sector
Online, August 5, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Search and social marketing agency, Sleeping Giant Media, recently gave a presentation on digital marketing to the management team at the Hospice in the Weald.
The hospice, based in Pembury, Kent, provides palliative care and advice to people in the Weald area of Kent and East Sussex who have life limiting illnesses. The Hospice in the Weald rely on donations to provide their valuable services without cost to the patient.
The presentation, which is available to view on Slideshare (link below), included the strengths and weaknesses of pay per click advertising, search engine optimisation and social media and how integrating all three channels provides the best results.
The not-for-profit sector has seen an increase in online giving over the last years. According to the Institute of Fundraising1, there was a 21% rise in online donations between 2010 and 2012. Charities, such as the hospice, can utilise search marketing strategies to present their message and encourage additional financial support.
Sleeping Giant Media made suggestions in the presentation as to how the charity could make changes to their website to drive relevant traffic to their site, for example by including key search terms in the headlines on their events page. He also spoke about the rise of social media and how the hospice can leverage social platforms to benefit their charity.
"Digital marketing is continually growing and evolving within the charity sector," said Luke, Sleeping Giant Media's managing director. "Although the objective of the charity is not to sell anything it is still important to get a message across to its supporters. Digital is a great way to communicate this message and hopefully presentations like this outline some of the opportunities charities have to do this effectively."
Rob Woolley, Chief Executive of Hospice in the Weald said, "I thought it was a very useful update on current thinking about websites and social media. I thought Luke was impressive and likeable."
Alison Brunning, Counselling Support Services Administrator commented, "There was certainly plenty of information to take in and most of it quite enlightening; fundraising, retail and education I think will take the most from it. I was totally ignorant of most of the content so came away full of new knowledge."
