DirectRooms.com - Celebrate Good Friday in Liverpool on 22 April 2011
Online, March 15, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The holiday is a celebration for Christians who remember the day when Jesus Christ was crucified on a cross.
Jesus Christ was arrested by the Hebrew elders and tried in a mock trial, after which, he was turned over to the Roman soldiers where he was beaten, flogged with whips, and had a crown made of long thorns pressed into his head. He was spat upon and made to carry his own cross from the city up to Calvary Hill, up above the city just outside the city walls. Jesus was then nailed to a cross with nails through the palms of his hands and through his wrists and a nail placed through his feet. He was crucified along with two criminals whose crosses where placed on either side of his cross.
It is traditional to eat warm Hot Cross Buns on Good Friday. The spicy fruit bun has a pastry cross on top that symbolises and reminds Christians of the cross that Jesus was executed. Traditionally the bun is only ever sliced horizontally. It is traditional to eat only fish or eggs on Good Friday.
Good Friday marks the beginning of the Easter Weekend. Liverpool Airport hotels accommodate many guests who have travelled away from home to visit their friends and family for the long weekend, which also encompasses the Easter Monday.
