DirectRooms.com - Experience The Road of Flowers and Light in Kyoto Between 10 and 19 December 2010

DirectRooms.com advises that visitors to Japan's Kyoto should go and see the amazing spectacle of colour and light at a special festival happening in the city in December

The Arashiyarma Hanatoro Festival 2010 sees many of the streets lined with thousands of traditional lanterns to illuminate the city with a soft glow. Hanatoro stands for 'flower and light road' and Arashiyama is the district in Kyoto where the event takes place.

The lanterns spread for over five kilometres through the streets of the town centre and are accompanied by colourful flower displays. The event also features projections of light whereby the nearby mountains and hills are lit up along with important monuments and temples.

Visitors staying overnight in a hotel Kyoto should also go and see two of the city's top attractions which are the Togetsukyo Bridge which crosses the river and the beautiful forest of bamboo behind the Tenruji Temple. Both attractions have stunning light displays taking place for the duration of the festival which runs from 10th to 19th December 2010.

Many temples will stay open later during the festivities for people to pay their respects and visitors can also check out the street artists performing around the city including women wearing traditional Japanese kimonos.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "This is a unique festival that attracts people from all over Japan and overseas due to its simple and natural beauty. Hotels witness strong demand and booking well in advance of arrival is recommended to ensure people get their hotel of choice."
