DirectRooms.com - Interlaken Hosts Alpine Expedition Race During 24 to 29 May 2011
DirectRooms.com reveals that Interlaken will be the stage for an intensive and gruelling endurance race that will see competitors tackling a variety of disciplines.
Online, April 17, 2011 (Newswire.com) - For four continuous days of racing, The Alpine Expedition Race (APEX) will be testing many of the fittest athletes in the world with a course that comprises trekking, mountain biking and running. Along the way athletes will be thrown into paragliding, kayaking and canyoning through the beautiful yet challenging landscape. If that wasn't enough, teams will then be put up against class III and IV white water rapids.
All of the events will be held by some of Switzerland's most scenic terrain although participants will be thinking less about the countryside as they have to compete in snowy conditions where the temperature can fall to below zero degrees. Certain sections of the course will also have high altitudes of close to 3,000 meters and this will be combined with difficult orienteering as teams have to find their own way to the designated checkpoints.
To be eligible to take part teams must consist of four co-ed members in the premiere division while in the open category teams are all the same sex with either three to four people. Competitors will need to book a hotel in Interlaken before and after 24th and 29th May 2011 when the race takes place.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "This is an event for international competitors and as a result many more visitors will be expected in Interlaken. As a popular tourist destination anyway it's best if people book early to avoid disappointment."
