DirectRooms.com - New Concert Hall Opens in Reykjavik on 4 May 2011

DirectRooms.com announces that Iceland is opening a brand new concert hall in Reykjavik which is set to be one of the most prominent performance theatres in the country and will feature a series of major artists performing in the opening concerts.

Harpa Concert and Conference Hall will open with a performance by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and will bring together two of the country's favourite classical musicians in Vladimir Ashkenazy and Víkingur Heiðar Ã"lafsson. Ashkenazy will be conducting the orchestra accompanied by choirs and soloists including Ã"lafsson's individual performances on the piano.

A selection of events from the Reykjavik Arts Festival is set to take place as part of the grand opening and this will include the voice of Jonas Kaufman, regarded as one of the world's foremost tenors.

The building itself has been designed by Danish architects Henning Larsen along with Iceland's Batterilo Architects and they've worked with conjunction with artist Olafur Eliasson who's vision went into the glass façade. The centre will be made up of four main halls and the largest hall is able to seat 1,800 guests.

The official opening performances start at 20:00 on 4th May 2011 but tickets for the event have already sold out and this will cause difficulties when people go to book hotels in Reykjavik Airport with so many people coming to the event.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "This is a big occasion for arts fans and the city will be inundated with visitors. Early hotel bookings are recommended for people heading to the capital in May."
