DirectWomen Alumna Catharine Arrowood Is Incoming President Of The North Carolina Bar Association

Top Litigator And DirectWomen Alumna Becomes President Of The NCBA On June 25

Catharine Biggs Arrowood becomes the 120th President of the North Carolina Bar Association on June 25, 2014 at the NCBA Annual Meeting in Wilmington, NC. Arrowood is a Litigation/Arbitration Partner at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP and a DirectWomen alumna. DirectWomen, an organization formed to position women lawyers to serve on company boards, selects a group of qualified women lawyers from a competitive pool of applicants across the country to participate in its annual Board Institute. Arrowood is Vice Chair of its Marketing and Professional Alliances Committee.

Arrowood is a leader in North Carolina's legal and business communities. She recently joined the Board of Directors for Rex Healthcare, Inc., a major private health care system, and is General Counsel to the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. She has chaired the North Carolina Symphony and the North Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society. Arrowood is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has chaired its International Committee and its North Carolina State Committee. During 2007 she served as President of the Tenth Judicial District Bar. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wake Forest University and obtained her JD from its School of Law in 1976.

At Parker Poe, Arrowood represents and advises clients on a broad range issues that affect the viability of small and large businesses. Her clients have included accounting firms, educational institutions and companies in a variety of industries including healthcare, insurance, technology and banking. For over a decade she served on the firm's management committee.

Arrowood is a member of the Panel of Neutrals for the American Arbitration Association and the International Centre for Dispute Resolution. She regularly serves as an arbitrator and is currently Co-Chair of TerraLex's International Arbitration and Mediation Practice Group. She is also a Certified Superior Court Mediator.

At the DirectWomen Board Institute of 2009 Arrowood attended informational sessions with distinguished faculty on key issues facing current and future corporate directors. As a DirectWomen alumna, Arrowood is part of a network that includes over 100 Board Institute alumnae, nearly 30 Sandra Day O'Connor Board Excellence Award honorees and a vibrant group of supporters including CEOs, directors of large public companies, executive search firm principals and other leaders of the business community.
