Disability Solutions Awards Synchrony Financial with World of Opportunities Innovator Award

Disability Solutions, the Disability and Inclusion consulting division of non-profit Ability Beyond, recognized Synchrony Financial last week at Ability Beyond’s Annual Report to the Community. Liz Heitner, SVP of Human Resources and Rachel Lieberman, SVP and Chief Counsel, Labor, Employment and Benefits at Synchrony Financial accepted the inaugural Disability Solutions "World of Opportunities" Innovator Award on behalf of Synchrony. The "World of Opportunities" Innovator Award was presented to Synchrony to recognize their leadership in hiring and valuing talent with disabilities.

Synchrony Financial, in partnership with non-profit Disability Solutions, is actively hiring people with disabilities, including veterans with disabilities in the Kettering, Ohio Business Operations Center.  The pilot initiative is designed to prepare Synchrony to increase hiring of this talented and underutilized jobseeker group across the organization. Since mid-June, Synchrony has hired 22 people with disabilities into full- and part-time roles within the Business Operations Center. The Kettering focused initiative is focused on hiring no less than 45 people with disabilities by the end of Q1 2017.

Kris Foss, Managing Director of Disability Solutions, praises Synchrony’s commitment to the initiative. “Synchrony has a secret to their success…they truly believe that by providing a work environment, benefits and culture that encourages their employees to bring their whole selves to work – they will in turn put their whole selves into providing excellence to their customers.  We saw this reflected throughout their organization, and exemplified in their leaders, with top-down commitment to engaging and employing talented people with disabilities at multiple levels of their organization.”

Julie Cook is the Disability Solutions Senior Consultant working with the Synchrony team.  As a person with hidden disabilities, Julie knows that companies like Synchrony will be the true game changers in impacting the high unemployment rate for people with disabilities. “My hope is that businesses across the country will follow Synchrony’s lead in seeing and engaging in the true talent value of our community. We are looking for opportunities to be successful in an organization that values talent of all types. Synchrony’s focus on culture, talent, and people will be that opportunity for many talented people with disabilities.”
