Discuss.io 360 Immersion - Looking Through Consumers' Eyes
Discuss.io Launches Immersive Experience for Qualitative Market Research Using 360 Degree Camera and Virtual Reality Headset
Seattle, WA, February 20, 2017 (Newswire.com) - Discuss.io, a video conferencing platform that uses web browsers and webcams to connect marketers with consumers in as few as 48 hours, announced today the launch of Discuss.io 360 Immersion.
You can now view a 360 degree video stream on the Discuss.io platform, bringing you one step closer to consumers' lives. This offering makes it possible for marketing and insights teams to observe in-home ethnographies as they happen in real-time through the use of a low-cost headset that is typically used for virtual reality applications. Observers are able to immerse themselves into the participant’s environment and experience it as if through the participant’s own eyes. By replicating the in-home experience, the immersive technology enables brands to gather deeper insights and enhance storytelling.
The market research industry has remained shockingly stagnant over the past half-century. With the launch of this new immersive technology, Discuss.io is pushing the envelope in market research. We are excited to expand our product offerings and intend to continue to advance the capabilities of market research through innovative and effective new technologies.

“The market research industry has remained shockingly stagnant over the past half-century,” explained Zach Simmons, Founder and CEO of Discuss.io. “With the launch of this new immersive technology, Discuss.io is pushing the envelope in market research. We are excited to expand our product offerings and intend to continue to advance the capabilities of market research through innovative and effective new technologies.”
Discuss.io launched the pilot for their new technology in Brazil. During the pilot, they conducted an in-home ethnography in which a mother, age 35, used the technology while doing laundry. The observer (a brand manager) could turn their head left, and find the washing machine; look up, and see the detergent on a shelf; or look down, and see the baskets of clothes on the floor.
The technology created a truly immersive experience for the brand manager to understand the consumer’s process of doing laundry, as well and the factors that weigh into her decision-making process when buying a particular brand of detergent. Discuss.io is increasing brands’ capability to connect directly with consumers, in real-time, regardless of geographical boundaries. In addition to the 360 degree video feed of the room, the platform has synchronized audio capabilities as well.
“With our immersive product line, brands no longer need to rely on claimed behavior, they can observe actual behaviors and get into the minds of the consumers,” said Shalendra Chhabra, VP of Product and Marketing at Discuss.io. He continued, “At Discuss.io, we are committed to building engaging products that can replicate interpersonal interaction, at faster speeds, all while removing the friction in conducting market research and eliminating the frustration and inefficiencies caused by traditional in-person methodologies.”
The initial pilot for this release focuses on replicating an in-home experience; however, this technology is scalable for other forms of ethnography, like shop-alongs, as well. More details about this technology can be found on the Discuss.io website at www.discuss.io/360.
