Distinguished Academics, Media Professionals, Activists And Community Leaders Join The State Of Young Black New York

Speakers Announced For The State Of Young Black New York: Kevin Powell, Michaela Angela Davis, Dr. Gregory Carr, Esther Armah, And More! Taking place at the NYU Kimmel Center on Saturday, Feb. 26, beginning at 9:30a.m

Avenue Pink, New York Urban League's Young Professionals (NYULYP) and New York University's (NYU) Wagner Black Student Alliance unite to host "The State of Young Black New York: Exploring Multiple Dimensions of Black Identity" (SOYBNY), a full day of conversations about contemporary notions of Black identity, at the NYU Kimmel Center (9th floor) on Saturday, February 26, from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. This interactive and landmark event, contextually held in the wake of Black History Month, was inspired by a spike of recent conversations addressing ideas of post-racial identity, professional, political and gender identity in a 'post-Obama era.'

Featured Speakers include; Dr. Alvin Tillery, Dr. Gregory Carr, Felicia Pride, Esther Armah, Jeffery Robinson, Shaunice Hawkins, Monroe France, Michaela angela Davis, Bertha Lewis, Cynthia Gordy, Vaughn Crandall, and Glen Martin, with a Keynote address by Kevin Powell. The perceptions and ideas shared are thought to be a vital step in understanding and advancing the collective understanding of the Black Diaspora defined, particularly as it relates to identity, among young Black New Yorkers.

Partners for this event include Yum! Brands; National Alliance of Market Developers - NY Chapter, National Association of Black Accountants - NY Chapter, The Brooklyn/Long Island graduate chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha and official media partners The Root.com, NV Magazine, and Avenue Pink.
