Do You Really Know Miami?
Over the coming year, What Miami will be collaborating with a variety of local organizations, businesses, and artists to create new, compelling events and products designed to explore the artistic development of Miami.
Online, February 11, 2011 (Newswire.com) - What is Miami? Is Miami the emerging band from Little Havana, or the local painter sitting at his converted studio in Wynwood? Is Miami the graffiti artist from Kendall tagging crumbled warehouses, or the immigrant DJ mixing it up at heart-pounding nightclubs? Is it gritty urban landscape, international landing pad, or a tropical beachfront paradise?
So what is it? The What is Miami campaign, launched by What Miami (www.whatmiami.com), is designed to answer this particular question. By highlighting the emerging local art scene and exploring the different artistic mediums and cultures in South Florida, the What is Miami campaign hopes to shed light on those making a difference.
The What is Miami campaign begins this Saturday, February 12, 2011 with the FREE Miami is Wynwood Art Ride - a community bicycle ride through the Wynwood Arts District exploring the different facets of this emerging neighborhood. Participants will have the opportunity to see world-class graffiti and murals, visit local galleries, shops, and artist studios, speak with gallery owners and curators, and even ride alongside local artists of different mediums.
Participating venues and organizations for the upcoming What is Miami Wynwood Art Ride include the South Florida Bicycle Coalition, Life is Art, Social Buzz TV, the Wynwood District Association, the Harold Golen Gallery, Gab Studio, The Wynwood Kitchen and Bar, Wynwood Walls, Adjust Gallery, Dorsch Gallery, Miguel Paredes Studio, Bernice Steinbaum Gallery, T-Shop Miami, and more.
The following event takes place on Saturday, February 19, 2011 in collaboration with Transit Lounge in downtown Miami and ¡Mayday!. The Miami is ¡MayDay! Local Artist Showcase invites everyone to come discover why Miami-based ¡MayDay! is arguably one of today's hottest emerging bands. What is Miami? Miami is ¡Mayday!
According to owner Adam Mizrahi: "By bringing together the local community, galleries, artists, musicians, organizations, and businesses, the What is Miami campaign seeks to connect the dots and highlight the similarities and differences that make Miami's emerging art scene so unique. Influenced by a world-class source of creativity, culture, and people, Miami is developing an identifiable and unique artistic character and style that the What is Miami campaign will emphasize and promote."
What Miami invites interested artists, businesses, and organizations to participate in this new, ongoing campaign. Please contact What Miami at [email protected] for more information on upcoming What is Miami events and products.
