Do You Understand The High Blood Pressure Chart?

A high blood pressure chart is a visual aid that clearly shows whether your blood pressure readings should be considered normal. High Blood Pressure Insider is dedicated to promoting a greater awareness of the problems associated with hypertension.

High Blood Pressure Insider is a website uniquely dedicated to promoting greater awareness of the problems associated with high blood pressure. Today they're highlighting the importance of understanding the high blood pressure chart, and knowing where your blood pressure readings appear on that chart.

Our blood pressure is constantly changing during the day, even at night while we sleep. In a recent article entitled "Blood Pressure -- Take It Home and Sleep on It" Dr Henry Black discussed the importance of monitoring night time blood pressure before a course of action is taken

Knowing your blood pressure readings is vital. Everyone should get checked out on a regular basis, irrespective of age. High blood pressure and heart disease have no respect for youth.

You doctor will be always be happy to check your blood pressure levels.

Blood pressure readings are always shown as two numbers, for example 142 / 91.

The first number is your systolic blood pressure ... this is the highest pressure reached, when your heart beats and pushes the blood round your body.

The second number is your diastolic blood pressure ... this is the lowest pressure reached, when your heart relaxes between beats.

You may have high blood pressure if, either

1. Your systolic reading is 140 or more , regardless of your diastolic reading.
2. Your diastolic reading is 90 or more, regardless of your systolic reading.

Or you may have low blood pressure if, either

1. Your systolic reading is 90 or less, regardless of your diastolic reading.
2. Your diastolic reading is 60 or less, regardless of your systolic reading.

Isolated readings can't be relied on as to whether your blood pressure is considered high, low, or even normal. Only if you consistently find that your readings fall into one category, do you need to take action.

The Blood Pressure Association provide a fine example of a basic high blood pressure chart at their website. http://www.bpassoc.org.uk/BloodPressureandyou/Thebasics/Bloodpressurechart

Knowing where your readings fall on the chart is vital. We recommend that everyone has their blood pressure checked every 6 months, at least.

High Blood Pressure Insider is a website uniquely dedicated to promoting the use of the high blood pressure chart. The purpose of the website is to educate people to manage their blood pressure levels and enjoy the numerous benefits from having a healthy heart.
