Dodgeball Leagues Bounce Into The Nations Capital

Remember dodgeball, you know, that childhood nightmare where two teams square off on the gym court throwing big rubber balls at each other? Get hit and you're out, catch a ball and the other guy is out. It was a game where someone wins, and someone loses, none of that new age "Everyone's a winner" crap! Well, that game is all grown up now and it's making a reappearance as DC's newest adult social sport! The goal now though is to make sure everyone wins, or as Robert, the founder of United Social Sport, Says... to make sure that "everyone scores".

Classic social sports such as softball and flag football have been around for ages but few people have experienced the thrill of an adult dodgeball league. With groups like United Social Sports reintroducing this school yard game it's more organized and social than ever.

Players from around the area are gathering in dusty old school gyms and lining up to have balls through at them and of course to throw some back. They say they're doing it not because of the memories it brings back but the new memories and fun times it creates. "I've met so many cool people playing in this league. I even met my best friend through one of the leagues" Says Dan Shank a player of United Social Sports. "It's great because the league does all the work for you. You just show up, play, and meet new people" Says Robert Albrecht.

Indeed it does seem that the league covers all of its players needs, from ordering the team uniforms to organizing happy hours to even arranging drink specials at the bars for the post game activities. United Social Sports attempts to make the whole experience a "no brain-er" for its players.

No self respecting adult league could exist without trophy's and prizes and United Social Sports does not disappoint there either. Liz from one of the USS leagues told us "I couldn't believe it, I showed up to just meet some new people and I ended up winning an Ipod Shuffle... how great is that! Brian, another USS player told us about the last end of season party they had. "It was Awesome. Everyone from all the leagues came together, there was free beer, a bunch of games and raffles and I even won a 32" LCD flat screen TV in their Charity raffle drawling! I couldn't believe it."

It seems that everyone involved in these social leagues has a great time and that United Social Sports must be doing something right. "We've started with just over 200 players our first year back in 2009 and should have over 10k players in 2011." Remarks Robert as his sorting Cornhole & Bocce sets in their small storage room. Two of the other sports U.S.S. offers in addition to Skeeball, Beer Pong, Kickball and other new ideas he and his players are always hatching "If we can make it into a league and its fun and a great value for people than I think we can continue to grow and will add more sports. We don't want to turn corporate or loose touch with what the players really enjoy about our leagues" Robert continues.

People interested in checking out one of U.S.S.'s Fall leagues can visit out their website or surf over to their Yelp reviews, not surprisingly, they are all five stars. Visit U.S.S. at www.UnitedSocialSports.com
