Donna Summer - Last Dance Wednesday May 23
Online, May 22, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The legendary disco queen, Donna Summer, passed away at the age of 63 on May 17, 2012. She will be laid to rest on Wednesday, May 23 in Nashville, where her family has been based for many years.
Donna Summer's fans plan a tribute to honor her with "Last Dance Wednesday" - where everyone around the world will be encouraged to buy her signature tune, "Last Dance" from a favorite retailer (iTunes, Amazon or your favorite music store). You can also request the song from your local radio station or Internet station.
"Last Dance" was Donna Summer's Oscar-winning song from the 1977 movie, THANK GOD ITS FRIDAY, starring Summer and Jeff Goldblum. It was written by the late Paul Jabara who would write "Enough is Enough" for Donna Summer to duet with Barbra Streisand.
Though Five Time Grammy-winner Summer is known for a number of key songs - including her break-out tune, "Love to Love You," the electronica-pioneering "I Feel Love," the first rock/dance fusion "Hot Stuff," the feminist anthem "She Works Hard for the Money" and a string of Number One dance hits as recently as 2010's "To Paris with Love," it is her song "Last Dance" that remains the sentimental favorite and a fitting musical farewell from her fans.
Cathy Hawkins, webmaster for the long-running Donna Summer fan site, Donna Tribute, said, "For all these years Donna has sent us home to Last Dance, and now it is our turn to do the same for her. This is what we are going to do, on Wednesday (the day of Donna's funeral) everyone should go to iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody or whatever other MP3 retailer you like and buy at least one copy of Last Dance. Get your family to do it, your friends, your enemies - even your pets if they can work a keyboard! After you do that - call your local radio station and ask them to play Last Dance as a dedication to the lady herself. "
Let's honor this influential artist with a Last Dance.
