Dornan Engineering Discusses With Construction Digital Its Strong European Presence, Having Won Some Of The Region's Biggest Projects

Dornan Engineering has a reputation for excellence in electrical instrumentation. With a strong presence in Europe, the company plans to build on that growth in the future.

(San Diego, CA)- John Hickey, Business Development Director, told Construction Digital (www.constructiondigital.com) that under the guidance of current CEO Brian Acheson, Dornan Engineering has become "the leading mechanical and electrical company within the pharmaceutical and power industries in Ireland".

Following a management buyout in 2005 by Acheson, Oliver Lonergan (MD) and Chris McGovern (FD), Dornan Engineering emerged stronger and has gone on to conquer the European market.

Its expertise lies in the Life Sciences Industry in Ireland, while its development has remained in line with that of the pharmaceutical sector in the country, according to Hickey, who explained that his own appointment to the company was a formative time for Dornan Engineering.

In the interview, Hickey said: "Myself and Brian, along with others, decided to investigate the business outside of Ireland."

On the back of the successful delivery of a Biopharmaceutical plant in Stragnas, Sweden, by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, the company was awarded the Ticona relocation project in Frankfurt. Hickey explained to Construction Digital that following the completion of
several projects overseas, Dornan Engineering turned its attention to the UK market.

More recently, the company secured electrical and instrumentation work on a 2,200MW power plant in Wales. The project is valued at £20 million and is the largest power plant being constructed in Europe.

Hickey revealed to Construction Digital that the company sees a future in the hydrocarbons industry, particularly in LNG storage.

With a pipeline of projects for the next three years currently valued at 300 million euros, Hickey explained that the energy, life science, IT and hydrocarbon industries would be growth areas for Dornan Engineering.
