Downtown Los Angeles Organization Anounces Run/Walk Even To Help Homeless
United Steps announced today the date of Run With Me, a run/walk event scheduled to take place in Downtown Los Angeles on September 25, 2010.
Online, September 8, 2010 (Newswire.com) - "Run With Me encourages residentially-challenged runners and walkers to connect with runners and walkers from the community in a fun, relaxing and healthy atmosphere." says Charles Hill, founder of United Steps.
Last fall, United Steps organized and hosted Pedal With Me, a bike ride in Venice that attracted 100 riders and featured actor, Darryl M. Bell, from the hit TV show A Different World and House Husbands of Hollywood.
The run begins on 6th Street at Pershing Square and finishes 1 mile away at Gladys Park, where participants will celebrate with music, food and other entertainment. In preparation for the event, the organization has set up a running club, which is being coordinated by Luke Hughes of Serve LA. "We meet in the heart of skid row on 6th and San Pedro three times a week to encourage participation from the community-at-large and homeless men and women. We run and laugh together. Everyone has a great time." states Hughes.
Homeless participants of the event will receive a United Steps T-shirt, shoes, socks, water, and an energy bar. Shoes have been donated by Give Your Sole. Registration is free for all runners and walkers.
"Homelessness disconnects people. As an organization, our goal is to connect people through time, encouragement, respect and opportunity. That's what it's all about" adds Hill.
