Dr. Benoit Aubert Highlights The Importance Of India's First Global DBA From IMT Ghaziabad And Grenoble, France

"We have done all the research and have a specific orientation on new technologies. Our school in France is clearly well-positioned in Technology Management and IT Management," Dr. Aubert says. The DBA is expressly formulated keeping India's IT power in focus. The country is the technology capital of the world and further education in this area will help strengthen this industry further. "We are really happy to start collaborations specifically on the DBA programme."

Not completely industry-centric, the DBA programme is open to two types of students. One is the serious academic who is very keen on furthering his or her research abilities, thereby significantly contributing to management education. The second type are those already working in the industry and occupying senior positions.

"These two types are quite different. On one side you have professors who want to increase their skills and they want to leverage their ability to research. DBA is important for them to learn how to do publishable research. The DBA will teach them research methodologies to publish in journals and books or any other type of intellectual contribution," he explains in detail. "Then our other customers are senior managers who want to improve the business process - think about leadership, new technology development and delve deeply into any business related issues."

The IMT Ghaziabad GEM DBA programme fulfils a need. Thus far, especially in India, there has been a lacuna as far as collaborations between academia and industry are concerned -both these important areas for progress work in parallel instead of together. "Academia work for their peers and then in the business, they work with consulting companies without referring to academic knowledge," Dr. Benoit Aubert says.

The point of doing the DBA is for both these worlds to merge."Discover new ways of thinking and discovering new knowledge," he says, giving the example of a student who went to him wanting to show how trainings could increase customer loyalty. "He had a lot of ideas from companies and from visiting consulting groups and so on. But, when he started his DBA, he discovered there were hundreds of research papers written on the topic, but written in a different way: with new ideas, new methodologies to check viability, etc." An integral part of the DBA curriculum is to train students on how to do valuable research.
