Neurofeedback also called electroencephalogram (EEG), has been around since the late 1950s, created through the work of Dr. Joe Kamiya at the University of Chicago, who studied consciousness and Dr. Barry Sterman at UCLA who studied sensory motor rhythms. During a session, sensors are attached to a patient's scalp so the specialist can monitor their patient's brain waves through the EEG machine. Dr. Elena Eustache will then conduct a brain map which allows her to review and distinguish the parts of the brain that aren't working correctly or as efficiently in conjunction with the rest of the brain. Once the areas have been found, individualized brain training exercises are used to assist in retraining the patient's brain, for the sole purpose of creating healthier brain patterns.
