Qualifying from UWCM in the UK in 1990 Dr Weight then trained as a surgeon in Cardiff, Leicester and Sheffield before gaining his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1994.

He was awarded a Higher Doctorate (MD) from the University of Leicester in 1998 for original research and has published many papers in the international journals.
