Dr. Subramanian Swamy released 'President of India on Emergency 1975-1977' by Dr. Janak Raj Jai in presence of Former Chief Justice Chhattisgarh High Court Yatindra Singh and Mr. Sanjay Joshi, a prominent leader and social activist.

LexisNexis®, a leading provider of content and technology solutions for legal, corporate, tax, academic and government markets, released ‘President of India on Emergency 1975-1977’ by Dr. Janak Raj Jai at Indian Law Institute, New Delhi, on February 29, 2016. Dr. Subramanian Swamy, Former Union Cabinet Minister and Economist, who was the Chief Guest of the function, released the book in presence of eminent dignitaries like Hon’ble Mr. Justice Yatindra Singh, Former Chief Justice, Chhattisgarh High Court; Mr. Sanjay Joshi, Prominent Leader and Social Activist; many serving and retired honorable judges from the Supreme Court of India and Delhi High Court; and several senior advocates, academicians and corporate counsels.

During the occasion, Dr. Subramanian Swamy said, “The book talks about the anecdotal aspects of the Emergency and represents the views of the author on another book titled ‘The Dramatic Decade: The Indira Gandhi Years’, written by the President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee.” Mr. Swamy further said that while a repeat of an emergency-like situation in the past is highly unlikely now due to the 44th constitutional amendment, but we need to also consider other scenarios that can be triggered by acts of terrorism and corruption. This book is a treasure for researchers; it is a valuable material; it is not an analysis but a compilation of facts, letters, reports, articles, and judgements related to the darkest phase of the Indian democracy.”

While welcoming the guests and other dignitaries present, Mr. Vikesh Dhyani, Marketing Director, LexisNexis India, said, “The book concurs with LexisNexis’ broader purpose - that is to Advance the Rule of Law. It highlights the atrocities committed on the innocent citizens, who were detained under MISA and other offences during the dark days of the Emergency. It is an informative and thought-provoking read that will help everyone to understand what can happen when the Rule of Law is not adhered to in both letter and spirit. The Rule of Law is the basic foundation for strengthening and enabling success of political, economic and social systems in any country and LexisNexis, through its suite of print and online solutions, continues to facilitate the same.”

Congratulating the author on his achievement, Retd. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Yatindra Singh said, “Dr. Janak has done a great job in writing this book. I felt that many pages in the book – ‘President of India on Emergency 1975-1977’ were written for me. The book highlights the atrocities and terrors of those times. It is written in a topicwise manner and also provides important quotes.  It does a heroic service of providing the highlights of Shah Commission Report, which otherwise you will not find anywhere.” He further added that this books actually points out the mistakes that people had committed then and it is the author’s endeavor that lies should not become the truth.

Other distinguished guest of the function, Mr. Sanjay Joshi spoke about the author. He said, “Dr. Janak has set the record right. Young people should know the reality of the Emergency Period. It should be made a compulsory reading to let students and masses know the truth about the Emergency.”

Overwhelmed with the compliments of the dignitaries present, Dr. Janak Raj Jai said, “To set the record right, an earnest effort has been made to highlight in the book the atrocities committed on the innocent persons and their families, who were detained under MISA and other offences during the dark days of Emergency. The generation that was born after 1975 has every right to know the real history of the Emergency days. The book contains 17 chapters and 10 annexures. Every chapter and annexure is quite informative and provocative. In short, there are many revelations brought out in black and white in the book highlighting the true facts of the Emergency.”
