DTE Gears Up to Be a Major Part of Manufacturing Day 2015

Missouri-based custom automation systems and tooling company plans to celebrate the October 2 event by helping young people find career path.

DTE, Inc., a Missouri-based custom automation systems and tooling company, has announced its intentions to be an integral part of Manufacturing Day 2015 by inviting area vocational-technical schools for a tour of the facilities, exposing them to presentations by employees and letting them enjoy a reception. As a nationwide event taking place on October 2, Manufacturing Day 2015 has traditionally been hosted or sponsored by hundreds of manufacturers to promote an understanding of manufacturing and encourage careers. According to DTE representatives, the company will do just that by helping young people discover a career path during this year’s event.

“Like many manufacturers, DTE is seeking workers to fill open positions in its modern 230,000 square-foot manufacturing facility,” says DTE President Tom Waters. “We want to use Manufacturing Day as a means to reach out to schools in one-on-one conversations and find the newest generation of DTE employees – indeed, what had started as a way to be a ‘good corporate citizen’ has become an employee recruiting tool for us as well as a great opportunity for those seeking a unique career foray.”

"Known as 'MFG DAY,' Manufacturing Day addresses common misconceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show - in a coordinated effort - what manufacturing is…and isn't."

For Manufacturing Day 2015, DTE plans on opening its doors to the community, hosting a student/teacher blog contest, having the local bakery make “MFG DAY”/DTE cookies, sending participants to a local school and looking for its next new hires.

Supported by a group of industry sponsors and co-producers, MFG DAY is designed to “amplify the voice of individual manufacturers” and “coordinate a collective chorus of manufacturers with common concerns and challenges.” As the rallying point for a growing mass movement, MFG DAY empowers manufacturers to come together to address their collective challenges so that they may, in turn, help their communities and future generations thrive.

“Known as ‘MFG DAY,’ Manufacturing Day addresses common misconceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show – in a coordinated effort – what manufacturing is…and isn’t,” adds Waters. “By working together during and after MFG DAY, manufacturers like us here at DTE can begin to talk about the skilled labor shortages we face while connecting with future generations and taking charge of the public image of manufacturing. The goal is to ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry, while also giving back in the way of helping young job-seekers find that always-coveted career path.”

DTE’s MFG DAY tour participants are encouraged to enter the MFG DAY Blog Contest, with additional information available at https://www.detroittool.com/dte-inc-celebrates-mfg-day-2015/.
