Duffels for Kids Program Distributes Duffels to Foster Children
Duffels for Kids, a program of the Florida State Foster/Adoptive Parent Association, is distributing approximately 70 duffels to foster parents on Thursday, August 29 in Orlando.
Online, August 29, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The Duffels for Kids program will distribute approximately 70 duffels to foster parents on Thursday, August 29 at the Peabody Orlando in Orlando, Florida. Duffels for Kids is a signature program created by the Florida State Foster/Adoptive Parent Association (FSFAPA) to break the cycle of foster children having to use trash bags as luggage.
The Duffels for Kids distribution will take place during the 2013 Child Protection Summit hosted by the Florida Department of Children and Families. Caregivers, who are among the thousands of DCF workers and supporters, will pick up the duffels during FSFAPA's Lunch and Learn session at 12:15 p.m.
The Duffels for Kids idea began in July 2012 and has since blossomed into a full-fledged program, providing backpacks and duffels to foster children across the state. In May 2013, the Duffels for Kids Walk was held at Jungle Island in Miami, raising more than $20,000 for the purchase of new duffel bags for the children. There are more than 8,000 children in foster care in Florida, and FSFAPA is determined to distribute duffels to all 8,000 children -- because trash bags shouldn't be a substitute for luggage.
