DutchCrafters Donates $5,000 to Mennonite Economic Development Associates Fundraiser

DutchCrafters Amish Furniture, the largest Web-only retailer of Amish furniture at www.DutchCrafters.com, has donated $5,000 to support the work of Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) through the Bike to GROW fundraiser.

Mary Fehr and Sarah French biked across Canada with the goal to raise $150,000 for MEDA’s GROW program, Greater Rural Opportunities for Women. GROW helps women farmers access quality seeds and other supplies. The program plans to reach 20,000 women over six years.

While interns for MEDA in Tanzania and Nicaragua, Fehr and French were moved by the women impacted by MEDA’s business solutions to poverty.

“We saw a lot of inequality with females,” said French. “We thought, let’s try to help out with this.”

Just eight days after finishing their cross-continental trip, Fehr and French visited DutchCrafters’ headquarters in Sarasota, Fla. to thank the company for the donation.

“In the end, we exceeded our goal and raised about $200,000,” said Fehr. “This would not have been possible if not for the generosity of DutchCrafters and Jim and Linse Miller in helping fund this trip.”

“It has been an honor to sponsor this initiative,” said Jim Miller, DutchCrafters owner and president of the Sarasota, Fla. MEDA chapter. “We have been inspired by the Mary and Sarah’s creativity and perseverance in supporting the women entrepreneurs of Ghana and MEDA’s continuing economic development work throughout the world.”
