(Los Angeles, California) It has become common practice for many musicians to use samples from older songs to make new music. While everybody is doing it, not everyone is doing it well!
Then you press play on The Sample Collection Vol.1...
Instantly, the sample, the horns, and the drums from Black Widow snatches you into a musical web that entangles your ears and extracts your internal desire for some real hip hop. This is when the familiar cadence and demeanor of Dylan Synclaire graces the track with his lyrical gift.
In Black Widow Dylan describes in elaborate detail the moves and motives of a wise and cunning female who seeks to financially kill, devour, and destroy her male counter parts. The hook explains:
"Go figure they think she's a gold digga/running off at the mouth bout what you can go get her/ she's on ya arm/you feel like the don/didn't even know you was in for the long con/... she don't mind it if you think she's a hoe/the only thing she ever cared about was doe/ she's a black widow."
With the assistance of the 1960's Chicago band Ides of March and their hit single Vehicle, the picture is clearly painted of a scene we have witnessed many times before.
Teaming up again with producer extraordinaire Doug Fenske (Chris Brown, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J-who recently was nominated for a Grammy Award for his work with Frank Ocean) seems like a no brainer. The synergy between him and Dylan on this project displays musical genius on numerous levels.
For example, the first single off of Vol. 1 is entitled Summer Lovers which includes a sample from Seals & Crofts and their 1972 hit Summer Breeze. While a similar Isley Brothers sample has been used by your favorite rappers numerous times before, the Fenske use of the Seals & Crofts original adds a different feel to the sample and opens the track up to appeal to an array of music listeners.
Not to mention that Dylan Synclaire is verbally blessing us with a social commentary about loving the best time of the year, the game he soaked up from his pops, homeboy luv, and today's gun violence:
"Things den changed huh?/ Just aint the same huh/ Too many kids cocking/ Instead of riding' round till their chains poppin'/ What happened to scrappin' where you live to enjoy your victory/ See the one you beat he give you nod and that's all it be"
As if that wasn't enough, Synclaire and Fenske team up to sample Jimi Hendrix's hit song Foxy Lady. To say that the Hendrix Experience is alive and well and that they did the hit justice is an understatement. Equipped with the patented Hendrix chords, a blues-ish bass line, and the ultimate guitar riff, Dylan addresses how to capture and deal with a wild one:
"I got the combo to your safe/ I'm only in it for the chase/you aint the type to be tamed/ you're a fox in every way"..."Yeah baby I doubt cha/had a hunter like me come and scout the - out cha!/I got u in my sights/if its dawnin' I say good morning/but for now good night/ (you're wild baby) A fool I'd be/to try to get you out of these streets/When I can see that (you're wild honey)/Yeah I'm a beast but you might be wilder than me"
The well thought out production by Fenske and the captivating style, skillful wordplay, and unparalleled delivery by Dylan Synclaire in The Sample Collection Vol.1 will undoubtedly make other artists re-think their efforts when sampling the soulful greats.
Fresh off of starring in and providing music for the soundtrack and score to the feature film CLEAVER FAMILY REUNION, Dylan Synclaire provides a musical offering that gives his fans exactly what they have been needing, expecting, and asking for!
