Echosec Systems Launches New Feature to Detect Data Breaches
VICTORIA, British Columbia, April 16, 2020 (Newswire.com) - Echosec Systems Ltd. has released a brand-new feature to detect and expose breached login credentials. This allows organizations to effectively monitor the security of private information and mitigate the risk of fraud, ransomware, and malware attacks. Living within the company’s deep- and dark-web threat-intelligence tool Beacon, this feature is immediately available to all current and future clients.
Beacon’s latest feature enables users to easily access and search over 10 billion records (and growing) of publicly available leaked data repositories. This includes breached Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as email passwords, hashed passwords, phone numbers, user names, social security information, and IP addresses. This data is organized into a “Breaches” tab in Beacon’s interface for simple navigation. Users can then quickly sort and separate breaches relevant to their organization using advanced filters.
“When threat actors gain access to private information, organizations become susceptible to online attacks that put their business, personnel and clients at risk. The new Breaches feature provides insider threat protection to businesses, allowing teams to quickly identify and respond to information that can materially damage a company’s brand and consumer trust,” said Michael Raypold, Echosec Systems Chief Technology Officer.
The feature detects breached data early on — within a few days of the initial security violation. Data is continually refreshed as new information is discovered. This timely intervention enables businesses to detect breaches before further abuse and other secondary consequences, such as identity theft and social engineering, can occur. Organizations are better equipped to contain attacks, mitigate further risk, and inform stakeholders before it hits the news.
“We were able to find a compromised email and password through the Beacon Breaches tab that was not found using other professional tools,” said the Investigations Manager of Hetherington Group, a cyber intelligence services and training company.
According to the 2019 Cost of Data Breach Study conducted by IBM and the Ponemon Institute, the average global cost of a data breach between July 2018 and April 2019 was USD $3.92 million. Detecting breaches as early as possible increases an organization’s chance of mitigating financial losses, reputational damage, and fines from regional laws like the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Beacon provides a single point of access to the hidden internet by gathering data from hundreds of unindexed threat intelligence sources. Each month, Beacon gathers two million paste posts, 20 million dark web posts and 300 million discussion posts.
