EcoBoost Engine Technology Now Available At Tom Denchel Ford

Tom Denchel Ford anticipates enhanced performance in many 2013 Ford models using EcoBoost engine technology.

EcoBoost engines feature targeted injection of precise amounts of gasoline directly into cylinders. Bypassing any intake system, the engines optimize performance while reducing CO2 emissions and offering excellent fuel economy compared to V8 engines with similar power ratings.

The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 available in the 2011 Ford F-150 exceeded 100,000 sales in less than one year on the market. EcoBoost-equipped F-150s now account for more than 40 percent of F-150 retail sales.

2013 brings Ford EcoBoost technology to more models, including the Taurus, Fiesta, Edge, Escape, and Transit.

The 2013 Taurus has the addition of the Ford's 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, rated at 237 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque. With the EcoBoost engine, the Taurus is estimated to achieve up to 31 miles per gallon on the highway.

The powerful new Fiesta has a 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine, with 178 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2013 Fiesta boasts a 0-62 mph sprint time of seven seconds and a maximum speed of over 136 mph. Regular highway speeds produce an estimated fuel economy of 37 miles per gallon.

2013 Ford Edge offering the 4-cylinder EcoBoost as the premium optional engine. The current front-wheel-drive V6-powered Edge is rated at 19 miles per gallon in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. With the EcoBoost, those numbers should rise to 20-23 mpg city and 30-32 mpg highway.

When equipped with the optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, the 2013 Ford Escape has a tow rating of 3500 pounds. This is equal to the rating of the old Escape's 3.0-liter V-6 engine and far exceeds the 2000-pound capacity of the base 2.5 liter I-4 engine. It also shames the rating of other small turbocharged crossovers like the Volkswagen Tiguan (2200 pounds with its 2.0-liter turbo-four); the Acura RDX (1500 pounds with its 240-hp, 2.3-liter turbo-four); and the Kia Sportage SX (2000 pounds with its 260hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged engine).

Ford's 2013 Transit commercial van will debut in North America in 2013 with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, providing 365-hp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque to better meet the needs of commercial truck customers. These stats impressively exceed those of its future competitor, Nissan NV, which claims 317-hp and 385 lb.-ft. of torque from a 5.6-liter V8.

By 2013, Ford plans to produce up to 1.5 million EcoBoost engines worldwide, in vehicles from small cars to commercial trucks and vans. See current model year and pre-owned Ford vehicles now at Tom Denchel Ford.
