Electric Vehicles Are Here
Online, November 19, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The Smith Electric Vehicles Corp. that manufactures battery operated vehicles is planning to start a new factory in New York, so that it can cater to midsized as well as small customers. The company plans to come up with building and maintaining electric trucks for $5 million. The facility shall be ready by mid 2012.
"By being local, we create awareness and really make it viable for small and medium businesses to make this choice," said Bryan Hansel, the Chief Executive Officer. "It's a great product for this physical environment."
Smith's present database of customers is typically the one who own large fleets and have requirements for the maintenance of their own mechanisms. Coca Cola, FedEx Corp. and US Military are the prime ones. The company manufactures basically two types of trucks - The Newton and Edison. The Newton is capable of carrying 16,200 pounds of cargo and can travel 240 kilometers after a single charge.
The electric vehicles have been in vogue since historic times, and have their pros and cons too. The first thing that strikes to mind when we hear of an electric vehicle is its friendliness with the environment. They contribute half the time to the production of carbon dioxide as against combustion engines. They are completely pollution free as they emit no air pollutants, and as far as the production and charging units are concerned, it is accepted that they are not completely pollution free, but it is a lot easier to equip centralized stations of power with pollution control systems, as against what is required to fit in each and every combustion car engine.
Electric engines in electric vehicles are less noisy as compared to commercial vehicles and are thus useful for submarines.
However the recharge units will most of the time make use of fossil fuels like coal and gas, thus electric vehicles to a large extent contribute in depletion of vital energy resources too.
