Elite Personal Trainer Matt Sgro and the founder of the Fitness Charity Organization Boot Camps With a Purpose International donates 100% of the proceeds to the charity of their choice
Online, May 19, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Matt Sgro was in a bad life situation due to bad decisions, bad people and a life of undiagnosed bipolar disorder which left him broke, depressed and incarcerated in Chester County Prison.
This is where he started to turn things around, studying, taking and passing his Personal Training Certification. After spending 22 months in the prison, he was allowed to move to the work release center where guests can leave at times to work and do things such as education to get their life started on the right path before re-entering the outside world again.
Within two weeks of his release in September 2005 he was working the desk at a local gym. He gave as many free workouts as he could to hone his skills as a personal trainer. Within 6 months he got a job as a full time trainer at another local fitness establishment, quickly becoming the head trainer.
After a car accident where he disclocated his shoulder and cracked his knee cap he was on his back for ten weeks. This was another time in his life where he was given the opportunity to think about things, who he wanted to be, and where he wanted to go in life. So within 3 months of healing and getting back to training he opened his own place, Elite Personal Training, in Exton, PA.
A short time after opening he started doing fundraising Boot Camp workouts calling them Boot Camps With a Purpose and searching for other fitness professionals that would be interested in doing the same thing.
It's come a long way since the first B.C.W.A.P. where Sgro says one person showed up and there were four trainers. A lot of work and pushing to reach out and there are now around 60 fitness professionals and locations in the United States and people in four other countries doing these workouts and donating 100% of the proceeds to the charities of their choice. Nothing is taken out for operating costs as Sgro's company, Elite Personal Training absorbs any costs associated with website upkeep and maintenance and the trainers donate their places and their time.
Matt and Boot Camps With a Purpose's close group of employees and volunteers work diligently to get the word out and involve more people as their belief in this project is as strong as it gets.
Elite Personal Training has a Boot Camp With a Purpose every Saturday at 10am, year, round without fail to benefit Faithful Friends NO KILL Animal Shelter.
Sgro was quoted as saying "I chose to work to help animals as they're in a bad spot because of something we undoubtedly did. When people fail to take responsibility for things such as this, hopefully this organization we all work for can pick up the slack."
The Boot Camp locations benefit numerous charities which can all be seen on the website by a click of the "Donate Direct" tab.
Details on other locations are on the website. The website is also optimized in capital cities of countries around the world in an effort to find others to carry the torch and plant the flag of B.C.W.A.P. in their areas. Almost like the satellites sent out into space with messages in every language, a wing and a prayer is sent out to internet space, hoping it will reach the right people so as to grow this worthy on taking. As Sgro says,
"B.C.W.A.P. will be everywhere someday. Either way, if I spend the rest of my life working on this and one person or animal is helped, I think I will have spent my time wisely. Most hobbies can't say that. I love this stuff and although it is growing, I can't believe it's not catching on quicker. We'll keep pushing. I will not be the one sitting on a porch when I'm older talkin' about what a great idea we had and what could and should have been. We're taking it to the limit and trying our best. It's noble, righteous and there's nothing wrong about it. It feels good. That's the main thing. It just feels good."
Sgro is also working on a bipolar awareness and education website to let people know they're not alone.
Sgro said reguarding manic depression, "We're different. We're emotional and if you live in this world being like us and don't follow your heart you will always be unhappy. Follow your heart and don't ever be ashamed to wear your heart on your sleeve. Be you. Be happy. This project takes a lot out of me, but without it I would probably be doing something I shouldn't and I know I wouldn't be happy. I cry sometimes thinking how many people this can help. I also cry sometimes thinking it may never get out there to the level it needs to so it can do that."
The dedicated crew that works tirelessly to spread this is growing. A stronghold is developing in California and Florida, and Arizona has numerous locations participating in this movement. Australia, Canada, The United Kingdom and New Zealand all have support as well. It's described as a Fitness, Fundraising, Social Awareness Movement.
