EmbroidMe San Diego Backpack Drive Facilitates $24k in Supplies for Area Youth

San Diego, CA, September 16, 2015 (Newswire.com) - In the first of what is expected to become an annual event, EmbroidMe San Diego announced the success of the 2015 backpack Drive. The drive, which brought together diverse donors of all amounts, sought to help ensure all needy youth were well-equipped for school with backpacks and supplies.

“The drive was an amazing success and saw the community of area business owners come together to support our youth. It was very rewarding to work together and share our passion for the community in a way that supports the strength of its future,” explained Cam Schultz, owner of EmbroidMe San Diego.

The first round of the backpack drive the company facilitated $24,000(retail value) of backpacks filled with school supplies to be donated to local schools and non-profits.

The project gladly and gratefully accepted every donation to help support learning and literacy, and no donation was too small or insignificant. The effort did have special sponsorship levels in place to which area business owners positively responded that included a $10,000 Super Hero, $5,000 Head of the Class, $2,500 Learning Leader, $1,000 Booster, $500 Supporter, and $250 Friend.

“We were very pleased with a major Super Hero sponsorship from North Island Credit, where each of their 10 local branches is sponsoring backpacks for a school in their local neighborhood,” Schultz shared of the donors.

A number of additional local small businesses also made contributions and without whose help the giveaway would not have been a success.

The event also helped strengthen the business community and help facilitate relationships that may never have happened without the Giveaway as a catalyst.

“One person had family affiliated with an organization that had a need; another person (a business coach) had an ability to sponsor. We were able to match them up - they actually knew each other through a Chamber of Commerce group, but without the connection of the common effort they may never have known of the opportunity to be utilized within the community,” Schultz elaborated of the dynamic event.

The backpacks are being donated to schools and non-profits, and the organizations will be giving them out at their discretion to students with the most need. Each backpack is tagged with an inspirational quote about the value of education.

“We've got backpacks going into the Monarch School, E3Civic High, Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District, as well as many other schools. We've also got some going to Operation Big (Big Brothers/Big Sisters for military kids). I'm really pretty darn excited that we're able to make all this happen!”

Schultz explained that the effort will continue full force throughout the year, and that donors are still desperately needed.

 “As much as we've done, it's only a drop in the bucket compared to the need, so we  continue to seek participation and expect to keep the program going throughout the year,” concluded Schultz .
