English Woodlands Experience Increased Winter Sales

English Woodlands recently enjoyed the substantial increase in sales that comes from the winter season. Even considering this, growth in the planting industry is moving faster than projected.

Maintaining or growing plants is incredibly seasonal work. Most plants feature an appropriate time to prune them for growth or damage, where fruiting and flowering only occurs for small portions of the year. Winter is actually the most popular and sensible season to plant during, and English Woodlands announced their vastly increased winter sales as a result.

Most plants remain dormant over a vast portion of the year, from autumn through to the end of winter. This is actually when planting becomes most appropriate. When plants enter dormancy, signalled in deciduous trees by a widespread loss of foliage, they begin to reside in a low energy state. This means being moved from containers and tree nurseries to the ground is far less dangerous. There's less risk of shock as their low energy use means they can slowly adapt to the considerable change in environment, without worrying about the shock of being subjected to a new type of soil.

Any gardeners with a healthy amount of experience who are well informed about the life-cycle of trees and the best way to care for them know that winter is the absolute best time to get involved with investing in plants and getting them into the ground.

A representative from English Woodlands was able to take the time to comment on their vastly increased trade over winter, along with the reasons for it and what it means for the company. "We always see a lot of trade over winter, it's to be expected. It's the middle of planting season and gardeners nationwide are looking to restructure their gardens and find new species to experiment with. If you want to try out something new aesthetically and structurally there really is no better time than winter. Though even considering the general winter trend we are still seeing an overall increase in sales, more substantial than we'd usually project based on our regular growth."

There are plenty of factors playing into the growth of the tree nursery industry. Recent spread of disease across the country may have led to many more gardeners seeking to repopulate from the uninfected nurseries. Alternatively, some suggest the increasing elderly population combined with reduced income is leading to more seeking cheap, long-term hobbies like planting and gardening.

English Woodlands are a supplier of trees, plants and planting accessories operating out of East-Sussex. They've been expanding since 1919, and hope to see this trend continue in the coming year.
